Month: January 2014
Currently, we are holding our classes at the Path Yoga Center. All props are supplied, so there is no need to bring your own mat. There will be blocks, bolsters and blankets for you to use. You will need to sign a waiver if it is your first time joining us. Please inform your teacher if you have any injuries or health concerns.
We recommend wearing very comfortable clothing such as loose fitting pants, a t-shirt and possibly a light sweater if you are more prone to getting cold. Class sizes in restorative yoga are generally smaller, around 4-12 people. The class will be 90 minutes in time.
We will guide you through a series of 5 – 7 poses, and you will be completely supported by the props provided. All poses will be demonstrated and there will always be two teachers on the floor to assist and provide modifications.
Unlike a Hatha or Yin Yoga, the focus of restorative is not on stretching and strengthening the muscles, or stressing the connective tissues. You will not go outside your normal physical comfort zone in restorative yoga.
One of the benefits of this yoga is that it activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping you achieve emotional, physical and mental relaxation. After class, be gentle with yourself as you go back into the outside world.
